Donald Trump shakes hands with Japan’s new Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi during Tokyo meeting

During a diplomatic visit to Tokyo, U.S. President Donald Trump received yet another Nobel Peace Prize nomination, this time from Japan’s new prime minister, Sanae Takaichi — the country’s first female leader.
The meeting at Tokyo’s Akasaka Palace highlighted the growing ties between the U.S. and Japan and focused on peace, trade, and technology cooperation.

Japan’s Prime Minister Praises Trump’s Peace Efforts

At the start of their meeting, Takaichi expressed her admiration for Trump’s “unwavering commitment to world peace and stability.”
She told him that the world has “started to enjoy more peace on the ground,” crediting his leadership in promoting global stability.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed that Takaichi privately told Trump she would nominate him for the Nobel Peace Prize.

Strengthening U.S.-Japan Economic Ties

Beyond diplomacy, the leaders also discussed ways to secure global supply chains for critical minerals and rare earth materials — essential components for electric vehicles, computer chips, and military equipment.
A new framework agreement between both nations aims to boost cooperation and speed up mineral processing and delivery.
Trump emphasized U.S. support for Japan, saying:

“Any time you have any question, any doubt, any favors you need, anything I can do to help Japan — we will be there. We are allies at the strongest level.”

Shared Legacy and Symbolic Gestures

Sanae Takaichi is a close ally of the late Shinzo Abe, Japan’s longest-serving prime minister and one of Trump’s strongest international supporters. Abe’s legacy of strong U.S.-Japan relations continues under Takaichi’s leadership.
Trump fondly recalled his friendship with Abe and said, “Abe liked her, and she liked him — that’s a good sign.”

Warm Gestures and Cultural Exchange

During their meeting, Takaichi announced that Japan would gift 250 cherry blossom trees to the U.S. to celebrate its 250th Independence anniversary next year.
She also said Japan would contribute fireworks for the festivities — a gesture symbolizing friendship and cultural unity.
The leaders later shared a working lunch featuring American rice and beef prepared with Japanese ingredients while discussing the Russia-Ukraine conflict and future cooperation.

A Firm Handshake and a Diplomatic Message

As the two leaders clasped hands, Trump smiled and said, “That’s a very strong handshake.
The moment reflected mutual respect and a renewed sense of collaboration between the U.S. and Japan under Takaichi’s leadership.
