A ceasefire has officially taken effect in Gaza after the Israeli government approved the first phase of President Donald Trump’s 20-point peace plan, according to an announcement from the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) on October 10.
The IDF confirmed that Israeli troops have been repositioned along updated deployment lines, signaling a de-escalation following months of heavy conflict. The statement added that the army “will continue to remove any immediate threat,” while preparations are underway for the return of hostages held in Gaza.
Netanyahu’s Cabinet Approves First Stage
The approval came late October 9 after hours of discussion within Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s Cabinet, which debated the plan presented by Trump advisers Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff.
Officials described the decision as a milestone in efforts to end the two-year-long war between Israel and Hamas. The first phase of the peace plan reportedly focuses on security stabilization, humanitarian aid, and hostage recovery operations.
A Step Toward Peace
International observers have welcomed the ceasefire as a hopeful sign of progress in the region, though skepticism remains about the plan’s long-term viability. The United States has called for continued cooperation between Israeli and Palestinian leaders to ensure lasting peace and security.
The Trump peace plan, which outlines 20 major steps toward rebuilding Gaza and restoring regional stability, remains under close scrutiny from global diplomats and regional allies.
