Luigi Mangione, the man accused of killing UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, is scheduled to appear in a New York court on Monday, December 1, for an important evidentiary hearing. The hearing will focus on whether key items of evidence collected during his arrest can be used in the ongoing murder case.
Mangione was arrested almost a year ago at a McDonald’s location in Altoona, Pennsylvania. According to authorities, the arrest came after investigators linked him to the fatal shooting of Thompson, which reportedly occurred outside a hotel in Midtown Manhattan on December 4, 2024.
Key Evidence Under Legal Challenge
The upcoming court session will examine materials that police recovered from Mangione’s backpack at the time of his arrest. These items reportedly include a personal notebook and a handgun, which prosecutors believe connect him to the alleged crime.
However, Mangione’s legal team is challenging the legality of the search. His attorney, Karen Friedman-Agnifilo, filed motions arguing that police officers did not read Mangione his Miranda rights before questioning him.
