The manhunt for the suspect behind the deadly Brown University shooting has entered its fourth day, as newly released images provide investigators with their clearest look yet at a person of interest.
The shooting, which occurred during a final exam on Saturday, left two students dead and nine others injured, shaking the campus and the wider Providence community.
Authorities Release New Images of Person of Interest
On Monday, Providence police released updated photos and video footage showing a man believed to be connected to the attack. The individual is seen wearing dark clothing, a beanie, and a face mask, walking near Hope and Benevolent streets, close to the Ivy League campus.
Investigators say the images were captured around 2 p.m. Saturday, several hours before a gunman entered an engineering classroom at Brown University and opened fire.
Officials hope the clearer images will generate new tips as the search intensifies.
Manhunt Enters Fourth Day in Rhode Island
Federal and state law enforcement agencies are now working together across Rhode Island to track down the suspect. Despite the growing operation, authorities have not yet released a possible motive for the attack.
“We want to see the individual that pulled the trigger on these young kids apprehended, identified, and brought to justice,” Rhode Island Gov. Daniel McKee said.
“We want to make sure that all Rhode Islanders know that everything that is physically possible is being done.”
Officials Warn Time Is Critical
State leaders have indicated that the opportunity to capture the suspect may be narrowing. Attorney General Peter Neronha said he is hoping for a major breakthrough soon.
“That has to happen,” Neronha said. “The sooner we can identify that person, the sooner we can blow this case open.”
Law enforcement officials continue to urge the public to report any relevant information immediately.
Brown University Community Mourns Victims
The shooting deeply impacted the Brown University campus, one of the oldest and most prestigious universities in the United States. A planned tree and Menorah lighting ceremony on Sunday was transformed into a candlelight vigil honoring the victims.
The two students killed in the attack have been identified as:
- Mukhammad Aziz Umurzokov, confirmed by the U.S. Embassy in Uzbekistan
- Ella Cook, identified by a church in Birmingham, Alabama, where she was a parishioner
Classes and campus activities remain disrupted as students and faculty process the tragedy.
Investigation Ongoing
Authorities continue to analyze surveillance footage and follow leads as the search expands. Police have asked anyone who recognizes the individual in the released images or who was in the area on Saturday afternoon to contact law enforcement immediately.
This remains a developing story, and updates are expected as the investigation progresses.
