Third Suspect Arrested in Deadly Montgomery Shooting

Montgomery, Alabama (Oct. 17, 2025) — A third suspect has been arrested in connection with the deadly downtown Montgomery mass shooting that left two people dead and twelve others injured earlier this month, authorities confirmed on Wednesday.

According to Lt. Ernestina McGriff of the Montgomery Police Department, 19-year-old Javorick Whiting has been charged with attempted murder. He was taken into custody by the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency on October 16 and booked into the Montgomery County Detention Facility.

Whiting’s arrest marks the third apprehension in the ongoing investigation into the October 4 shooting, which took place in Montgomery’s busy nightlife district. The incident erupted when multiple individuals opened fire into a large crowd, resulting in the tragic deaths of a teenager and a woman, police said.

Earlier, on October 10, authorities arrested a juvenile male suspect, who now faces one count of capital murder, nine counts of first-degree assault, and three counts of second-degree assault. Due to his age, police have not released his identity.

Montgomery Police Chief James Graboys stated that the investigation remains active and additional arrests are possible as detectives continue reviewing evidence and surveillance footage.

Officials have urged anyone with information about the shooting to contact CrimeStoppers or the Montgomery Police Department directly.
