President Donald Trump’s approval rating continues to slip as new state-level polling shows his support weakening in crucial 2024 swing states.

According to Morning Consult’s October 14 update, Trump holds a net positive approval in just 24 states, while his numbers have fallen to net negative in every swing state for the first time since polling began.

Trump’s national approval average now hovers between 43% and 45%, with disapproval around 52% to 54%, based on data from multiple national poll aggregators.

Swing States Turn Against Trump

Morning Consult reports that Georgia and Arizona, which were previously split or slightly positive for Trump, have now shifted to net negative approval. The change highlights growing dissatisfaction among moderate and independent voters in key battleground regions.

In contrast, Trump continues to perform strongest in Wyoming, where his approval remains among the highest in the nation. His weakest support comes from Vermont, where his approval rating is deep underwater.

Low Ratings in Liberal States

In California and Oregon, only 38% of voters approve of Trump’s job performance — among the bottom ten states for the former president. In Illinois, just 40% of respondents said they approve of Trump’s performance in office.

Analysts note that the president’s recent deployment of National Guard troops in several Democratic-led states — including California, Illinois, Tennessee, and Oregon — has added fuel to political tensions and may be contributing to the dip in his ratings.

The Road Ahead

Despite the challenges, Trump retains a solid base of support across much of the South and Midwest. However, experts say his path to regaining national momentum depends on winning back suburban and swing voters in the states that decided the 2024 election.

With the 2026 midterm elections approaching, Trump’s approval ratings will play a critical role in determining whether Republicans can expand their influence — or face another uphill battle in Washington.
