Federal Government Shutdown

The U.S. federal government shutdown rolled into Day 10 on Friday, as lawmakers in Washington, D.C. failed once again to reach an agreement to reopen the government. The political standoff between President Donald Trump and Democrats continues, with both sides refusing to compromise.

Senate Rejects Funding Bills

On Thursday, the U.S. Senate voted down two separate funding bills — one backed by Republicans and the other by Democrats — marking the seventh failed attempt to break the deadlock.
The Republican-backed bill proposed extending government funding through November 21, but it fell short of the 60 votes required to overcome a Democratic filibuster.

Democrats have insisted that health care policy changes must be included in any new funding legislation, a demand Republicans continue to reject.

President Trump Doubles Down

In a statement late Thursday, President Donald Trump criticized Democratic leaders, accusing them of protecting what he called “Democrat programs”. He warned that if the shutdown continues, he may move to cut federal programs he believes are unnecessary.

Trump’s remarks came as hundreds of thousands of federal employees remained furloughed or unpaid, with several agencies facing growing disruptions.

No End in Sight

Analysts say the ongoing government shutdown could stretch further into the next week unless a bipartisan solution is reached.
Both parties appear unwilling to give ground, raising fears of deeper economic consequences and disruptions to government services.
